Amy Conley

Amy Conley, a Church staff member who worked closely with Amy Scobee, describes her as a bully. She gives examples of Scobee bullying other staff, while at the same time putting on a false façade.  Says Conley, “…she was the kind of person who had two faces.  You were never quite sure if what she told you was the truth or if it was something she just made up.  And that was the kind of person that she was.”

There was girl who had some weight problems and she went up to her and said, “You know you’re actually really getting overweight and you need to do something about it.” The person feels very withdrawn and that, that’s just bullying. You don’t do that to people and she did that sort of thing. Or even to me she would say, “Why is your makeup bad? Why aren’t you handling your makeup properly? You walk funny.” Things like that that make people not want to be around her or just make them feel smaller.

There’s one particular person who I still know very well, came up to her saying, “I...can I ask you a question.” Very politely asked her and she turned around and started yelling at him very loudly saying, “How dare you ask me a question! Don’t you even know how to raise your voice so I can even hear you. I’m in the middle of something. This is outrageous.” And went on for a good five minutes at him about how outrageous that was. So he felt very bad about it at that time and walked away.

In her own way she would flaunt herself as someone who they should use who’s competent, who could get things done and who could handle things. And that was not the case. She would make sure that if things were done right she would take credit for them whether it was done by her or done by someone else and that was part of her manipulation.

When she would deal with other executives or her superiors she was almost like a different person. She would smile. She was very outgoing with them only. And there was a very false façade if you’ve ever dealt with individuals who seem to have two faces. And she was the kind of person who had two faces. You are never quite sure if what she told you was the truth or if it was something she just made up. And that was the kind of person that she was.

The other thing that she was known for was being very outgoing on the subject and promoting promiscuous activity. When I was young working with her she boasted about the many boyfriends she had, about how she managed to seduce her current husband at that time and managed to get him to marry her.
